Questions for SW Missouri Detectors

Terrible Tom

New member
Newbie here. Is there anyone out there who knows what the soil conditions are in Newton and Jasper County. There used to be a lot of lead and zinc mines in this area and I think the soil may have elevated mineralization, but I don't know.

My other question is, what would be the best detector for coin/relic hunting for my area. I am new to metal detecting and my only exposure to the sport is from two detectors I inherited from my father. The two detectors are a White's 6000/D GEB and a AH Pro Super Pro. I do not know how to operate them, all I know is they will power up and buzz. Since these detectors are a little long in the tooth and old technology I thought that I would buy a new Tesoro detector.

Any information will be greatly appreciate, thanks.

Tom, My name is Mark, I live in Nixa MO. I have found that the best detectors for this area are the Minelab Xterras either the 70 or 705. The Whites MXT with the D2 or 6x10 DD coils work well also. Altho most of the dirt around this area is med hot, most stock detectors that you buy have the concentric coils on them, the DD coils work the best in our area.
Check out and do a search for 417 Relic Hunters Club in Springfield, alot of great people for info.

That I do have a Tejon. With the 5.75 Widescan it works great for old homesites in the trash, the 10x12 is all but useless, not getting any more depth than the stock 9x10 concentric. The detectors I mentioned work the best " FOR MY AREA IN MISSOURI" So guys, don't get bowed up about the mention of a Minelab or Whites. If the Tejon had more DD choices I would be happy with it and yes, I have used the 5x10 DD Lobo coil and the stock coil spanks it for depth. I try to have several machines in my arsenal to deal with different spots as a relic hunter..................MO

Thanks for the information Mark. Have you ever tried the Vaquero? At the present time I have minimum money to invest in a new hobby and a wife who would want me to sell some other toys to finance a new project.

Yes, I have had the Vaquero, same properties as the Tejon.
