Questions About Troy Shadow X-3

Prospector

New member
Hello Everyone: I am considering purchasing a used Troy Shadow X-3. Can anyone tell me what kind of detector and depth you can expect from one of these. I have owned Tesoro in the past, but never a Troy. I have heard good things about them. Also, how do the Troys compare to the newer Tesoros?

We can discuss this off the forum: MonteVB@comcast.net

Yah, what's up with that Uncle Willy?

Is there a secret society sub rosa that gets all the best?

Looks to me like that troy fella is doing some nice mods to badged tesoros.

I've been considering your post elsewhere about beepers you know of who specialize in micro jewelry.
And for that reason, I thought troy x-5 might be good as I'm a shallow hunter and don't need the horsepower of a Tejon but am thinking I'd be better off with a higher frequency for small targets than the 10khz of my present tesoro machines.

Would you tell me more about what might be good hardware for micro jewelry?
Is there a secret society sub rosa that gets all the best?
While I generally don't hesitate to hold back my opinions of models I own and use and like, such as White's (some) or others that are non-Tesoro's, I found that sometimes I would strike a sore spot with some people when I discussed a Troy Custom Shadow on any Tesoro Forum. Thus, the request for an E-mail.

Well Thank You, Monte,

Gosh, I'll need to read that twice! lots of info...

Well, there's not many things that get me riled up, and it's certainly not the Ford-chevy arguments.
I'll bet most Tesoro people are that way.

Looks like I had a misconception of the Troy machines, badging and all...

I suppose I'm quite a bit like others, looking for a silver bullet or magic dust to sprinkle on the machine to find em all.
I do like my Tesoros, and have confidence in them. I guess I'd like to get a fancy whiz bang brand just so I could talk about bells and whistles and pushing buttons and stuff like that.

Our local dealer is a very nice fellow, but pretty much occupied with his day job.

Considering, again, I see you are telling me that persistence will get me as far as I will go!

Thanks for the great reply.

I hunt with 10kHz machines. To day I recovered a nickel 8" deep in extreamly trashy red clay with mineralized rocks that were making my Silver Sabre uMax sound off with my 8" coil with the hole in it. I know it was 8" because the hole was widened out clay and I was scraping the undisturbed clay at the bottom. That's where the nickel came from. I measured it.

And small jewlery. Look at this found today. A delicate 14k diamond ring. The weight of the stone is inside the ring in iddy biddy writing.

Good day at the poolside,

Yah Yah Yah:happy:

I'm not quite jealous, but yer doin real good!

I really like my Tesoros. They are much more personal than my other machines.

Guess I'm just doing the grass is greener over there kinda thing.

...Au is always good, but excellent work on the nickel !

I let quite a few deep targets go cuz I don't want to tear up the parks.
