Questions about the M6

Bowie

New member
I am up for a new detector. The Vanquero and M6 are the two I am interested in mainly.
I hunt a lot in red clay so I am curious about the M6 ground balancing. Have any of you hit a high mineralized soil type and had any issues with it?? Just curious with the way one goes about balancing the M6 if you can balance it in a difficult soil.
Also,if I did buy this machine would you recomment the 4X6 coil or the 5.3 concentric. For the moment I could only buy one additional coil. What would you recommend?
Thanks
Bowie

bowi i have the M-6 and it is a great machine, ground balance whith a switch you can keep it on and it will auto balance i usually turn on the ground balance then lock it on i hunt in what is called the anoka sand plane the sand is not pure silica like on a beach its mineralized i know it has 2- to 3 % magnitite and a lots of feldspare in it i do know a spot whear thear is red clay and it has 6.5 % iron in it and 5% sodium and potash combined i should go hunt that to test the m-6 on it , as far as coils get the 5.3 its deeper than the 4x6 and it pinpoints spot on it is as deep as the stock coil wich i hate i mostly run my setting at the nickle or a bit less the coin mode will mask a coin if its next to a object that gives off a stronger signal than the coin i do not use it if you could spar an x tra 100 the MXT would be better it has more coil options like the big foot and many others and you can hunt whith a treshhold and will get you deeper than the M_ 6 i find as far as depth the 9.5" will give good strong signals to 6" but fades after that the 4x 6 gets 4.5" deep strong signals good VDI past that you better really concentrate ive dug many dimes at 8" whith the 5.3 which amazed me the 6x 10 is a great coil it gets 5" strong signals on coins and covers moor ground and is light as a feather for parks and beach it is a great coil i can get it thru high trash as easy as the 4x6 just dig targets in a forward position i sold my 5.3 to try a 4x 6 and im getting my 5.3 back but i like the 4x 6 for trash and around picknick tables and it is so light to swing its a great coil its a surface feeder thats all i know for now may the good lord be whith you

Thanks for the response Gunnar. Im just getting back into this. MXT, dunno, I can afford it but it looks complicated. Im sort of a meat and taters guy. Thats what turned me on to the Vanquero. I dont really need a VID but Ive read so much good on the M6,especially the simplicity. Glad you metioned the depth. Funny how some folks say a machine will reach to China and then someone like yourself telling the truth. Do you have a MXT?? I read a post on another board where the poster sold his MXT, bought a M6 and really liked it but went back to the MXT and one of the reasons, there were several he mentioned, but the main one seemed he liked the threshold tone and not a silent mode to hunt with. Plus if I recall correctly he stated the MXT was a manual balance machine.
Thanks

The M6 has the Autotracking Ground balance, I believe it's the same circuit that Whites has in the DFX, XLT and MXT all you do is raise and lower the coil a few times for the auto ground tracking to ground balance and you are done, the detector will make changes automatically as you detect. If you like you can also lock in the settings with the lock switch. It works well in bad soil and even is good in the wet sand at the beach. as far as coils go I have the 6x10 DD and it's a good choice for bad ground. I hope this helps.

Actually the MXT is not really a manual ground balance machine. You can run with an automatic ground balancing or lock it in after you ground balance.

Thanks Canewrap, I had just went back and reread that post, it is a auto track system. If I got a M6 or MXT for that matter, which would be the better coil for them, the 4X6 or the 5.3 concentric???

It would depend on your mineralization. If its low to moderate a 5.3 would work fine. If its higher the DD 4X6 might be a better choice for a trashy area.
