Questions about Tejon Threshold and Alt Disc

Hi All,

I've been using the Tesoro Tejon for a number of years but never thought too much about pushing the limits. I pretty much GB and run in Disc mode and find relics for fun.

But now I'm getting more serious with it and I'm trying to understand if my Tejon is responding correctly or I may need to send back for servicing, based on some research I've been doing on the web.

1) Folks talk about setting the threshold (in all metal mode) at 1:00 for a slight hum. I can get a hum but it's almost not audible at all in headphones. It's like noise in crappy stereo headphones on a crappy stereo when you listen really hard. I can turn the knob all the way CW and once in awhile get sporadic loud tone. But it's never a constant loud tone. There's never a point that there is a steady loud tone.

2) Main Disc knob will click up when all the way CCW and then turned CW. Alt Disc does not click. Is this normal?

3) When listening for tone and playing with threshold, if I turn Alt Disc knob back and forth I can get the tone to fluctuate from loud to inaudible. Doesn't seem to happen with turning the Disc1 knob. Trigger is left alone during this.

4) Foil will get knocked out at the Foil setting on Disc 1, but much lower (on iron) on Alt Disc.

Just wondering from other users if these things are the "nature of the beast" or I should plan to send it back this winter. I really hate to send it back and would prefer not to.

Regards

Dave,
1) How does it sound in the speaker rather than the headphones? Do you get good beeps on targets in the headphones or are all targets faint (including shallow targets)? If the headphones are fine, then you should be able to adjust the threshold from not audible to fairly loud; either with the headphones on or through the speaker.

2) That is how it works.

3) and 4) Sounds like the second disc potentiometer maybe flakey. My first and second disc track pretty well, iron on 1 is iron on 2; foil one 1 is foil on 2 and so on. Both are smooth. If the second disc tuned smoothly across the range, I'd think maybe the knob just needed repositioning, but if the second disc changes the tone a lot, it may be the potentiometer going bad.

I think I'd send it in for a check up.
Good luck to you!

Thanks tvr,

I spoke with Tesoro and am planning to send it in for a checkup. Since it is working fairly well on Disc 1 I'm going to use it a bit more before the bad weather rolls in, then send it off so as to not miss too much good hunting weather.

Regards
-Dave
