Questions about sef.coils for safari.

from the ads, they seem to be the best out there, my question is are they really that much better than the stock 11" dd that comes with it? im new to detecting and just got my Safari, so still learning.

thanks

I have a 6x8 SEF and certainly enjoy using it for high-trash areas. In terms of depth, I believe the stock coil can hold its own when compared to the SEF coils. If you want a coil that covers more area, the larger SEF coils would have added value. Of course, this is the opinion of the humble narrator...

I'm one of those guys who sees no need to go to a smaller coil like the 6x8"SEF. The 11"DD Pro coil seems to have separation abilities every bit as good as the 6" DD HF coil does on my XT-70 and that's plenty good enough for me. Though may eventually try the 6x8" SEF coil just to see if it will find anything the Pro coil missed.

I have the 8x6 but I really like the Pro coil. Unless its really trashy I stay with the 11". Once your used to it you'll be amazed at the seperation you can get from that big coil.

what about the 15 x 18 SEF coil for relic hunting on clean ground,. that will get me alot deeper right?

I've been curious myself about a larger SEF coil. I can only speak on the 6x8 sef since I have one. I really like it a lot. The separation is xlnt and depth is great as well but not quite as deep as the Pro Coil. Signals seem to be more precise and overall it's a very worthy coil to own. I use it about 80% of the time unless I'm in a really old area and want to go deep. I would think that other SEF coils would be just as good. Hopefully someone out there has a larger sef coil they can inform us about. :)

I have the 15x12 on my Quattro. I am using it mostly on places I have "cleaned out" before with the stock coil or with my other detectors. It is definitely deep, but does not like too much trash.

I have the 8x6, and the 15x12, I believe like Andy says in the book, Different conditions need different coils. The stock pro coil will get you through a lot but take the small 8x6 over the trashy area you went over with the pro and you will be surprised. Large open spaces the large coil (even tho I agree it is heavy and bulky) will let you cover more ground, I have not decided if it goes deeper than the stock coil or not. That is my 2cents worth.

I ran the pro coil about a year and was impressed at its target separation and depth and I found a lot in places that I thought was hunted out.I bought the 6X8 to hunt in brushy areas of abandon farms and homesteads and I was going on vacation to outer banks so I thought the smaller coil would be easier to use under water. It sat around for a couple months before a week or so before vacation I put it on in Masonic Park that I had hunted hard with Etrac and Safari both with pro coils.I just was mainly interested that the coil worked.I was total shocked at the end of my hunt that I found Barber quarter and 4 silver dimes and 7 IH plus old wheat's all near sidewalk edge.I only put pro coil on when hunting in farm fields or open sports field.I do not think there is much depth loss maybe an inch I find coins to 9 inches no problem.Pinpointing is faster and more precise with less damage to nice lawns.I have been working 60 plus hours a week and have not been out in over 2 months but I have a brand new 5 inch coil that is 3 months old still in the box and the first place I am going to try it out when I get some time is that same Masonic Park.I have had much better success with smaller coil then pro coil but I mainly hunt people concentrated area's.
