Questions About SE Pro

Hi, Was wondering if maybe some of Explorer People could answer a few questions, I have a buddy that has and Excalibur, and he keeps complaining that it is to heavy after awhile. He saw the add about the Explorer SE Pro saying that it has a light coil. I have looked on all the sales sites for the weight of the machine and can not find it anywhere. Does anybody know what the actual weight of the machine is and is it much lighter than the Excalibur, Also he has only been detecting for about 4 months . Is there much of a learning curve to the SE? Is it for a more advanced operator? He does not really go in the water, so i suggested he put a light coil on the excalibur, He detects @ the beach mostly. Is the SE that much more advanced as far as Features, and would you recommend it for someone this new to the hobby? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Ron

I also want to know if the Excal. can have the SE Pro coil put on. Not for the lighter wieght but for the coils ability. I have the Excal. 800 and it still feels heavy...I believe is the ergonomics of the Rod it sits on. A straight shaft from what I read is what he needs, or hip mount it.

The SE pro coil is built for the Explorer detectors and they are FBS technology, the Excals. are BBS technology. They have a few coils that are used on both but they specifically say for use with the Excal. or for Explorer. That is a good question....I would ask on the sand and beach forum....there are a few that know the Excals. and there are a few that modify their Excals....

As far as which is better at the beach...I ALWAYS prefer the Explorer....it gives a much better pic of whats in the ground...and when targets are few and or deep the Explorer won't let you down.

The SE can be a long learning curve, or it can be a piece of cake, depends on what he uses for a set-up. The hardest thing for someone to get use to is all those diff. tones...unlike most detectors with a few. At the beach if it makes a tone...I dig all except a solid iron tone.

If Money is an issue...he could get an older Explorer and still put the SE Pro Coil on it.....Thats what I use...XS ....or he could spring for a straight shaft and keep the water proof BBS Excal.
