Questions about Gain?

I remember seeing post about beach hunting and problems with waves and water rushing up to the detector and falsing and falsing on sloped beaches. I posted not having these issues, and didn't. I know several seasoned hunters have abandoned the CTX for beach use due to it being unstable in the wash and water. In another post I asked about never hearing a deep target on the beach. Not, not digging deep targets but not hearing deep targets.(meaning low deep sounds) It was suggested I visit my gain to bring up deeper targets. I read through the gain section and understand how this has affect on deeper targets. All the targets I dig on the beach hit loud if they are 2 inches or 12 inches. Last night I hunted with the gain at 24 (recommended) and was faced with falsing from waves and wash as far away as 12 ft. As each wave crashed down the detector would sound off and then as the water past over the coil it would again. I also notice that as I tried to detect at a cut on the beach ( a right angled 2ft vertical drop) I was not able to swing the detector near the wall as it sounded off as it approached the wall. Last night I did not remember that I changed the gain from 16 to 24.
Today I am thinking this may have been the cause. Next hunt I will check this out. I am running open screen with conbined tones FE line 24 Any thoughts?

dunn sound like it,,,

I don't recall it being as bad. I may have made other changes as well. My last beach hunt did not allow hunting in the wet sand near the water without continual falsing. The cut on the beach was this first one I have hunted by since buying the machine. It could not be used by the cut. I was not the only 3030 users with these problems that night. I am going to try different settings next time out and see.

i have lowered gain to run between 20-24 depending on the surf and current the rougher the surf i have found lower gain runs the ctx more stable. been running sens at 24-26 and digging dseep targets. somtimes i run sens up to 30 which makes the machine respond to all the mineral noises which sounds like low falsing but when it goes over a target bang it locks on. only reason i raise sens is we are really sanded in right now but mostly run with the 24-26 sens. i have found running the gain to high makles the machine too unstable. hh jim
