Questions about Bigfoot on an MXT

Hunt4Fun

New member
All of the following questions are about using a Bigfoot coil on an MXT:

Have heard a Bigfoot works differently on a MXT vs a DFX. Is that true?

Does the same target sound different under the front half of the coil verses the rear half?

If front and rear half do sound different, how long does it take to become accustomed to this difference?

How well does a Bigfoot work in mineralized soil or at a fresh water or salt water beach?

My soil reads 80 to 85. Is it reasonable to expect a Bigfoot to detect coin sized targets at 5 inches?

Sorry to be so full of questions but I would appreciate any advice from people with experience using a Bigfoot coil on an MXT.

Thanks everyone
Bob

I have used a Big Foot with my MXT for 18 months or more. I use it all the time and love the amount of ground I can cover. I like to hunt parks and schools.

A target will sound a bit different on front and back of the coil, you quickly learn that.

I have used it on salt water beaches and fresh water with equal success.

I am not sure how deep the big foot will go, I usually don't dig anything deeper than 4 inches or so.

Go for it, you will not regret it.

Hi Hunt4fun:

I've been checking out the Big Foot myself, but I see your ground is as bad as mine here in Idaho. I see they also have a DD Bigfoot called a Hot Foot which might be better for us both given our soil conditions. Perhaps someone can help us decide between the two?

HH

Where in Idaho do you live? I live in Caldwell.

I would not know where to begin but I will try. How about Idaho city, Stanley, Challis, Camp Cape Horn, just for starters. When I was young I was on staff at the Boy Scout Camp at Cape Horn. I havent been back there since, and I don't even know if it is still there. How about you?

This is GREAT! I don't know anything about Camp Cape Horn, but I could meet you at the other spots. I haven't hunted anywhere up there yet so don't know where to go. The good news is I hear there is still plenty of snow up there and I'll have time to get a DD coil. I've been using the 950 that came with my machine and between the hot rocks, iron and other stuff in our 40-85 ground, I'm having a hard time knowing what to dig or not. I swing this way I get iron, I swing that way I get a coin, move 90 degrees and I get a ring or something else. I have a 4x6 DD shooter on the way which I hope will end this problem. Just got Grey Ghost headphones (super improvment over cheap ones!) and a pin-pointer which I hope will improve my recovery time.

What kind of things do you like to hunt? I'm open to anything but I specifically bought an MXT so I could do both gold and coins, but I got to say, this isn't my old Discovery 2000. This MXT is an animal that needs to be tamed! So far, it's winning :)

I look forward to hunting with you. Hope you got yourself a steelhead this year. HH

Cape Horn is north of you near Stanley. I think its around the Grey hound mine. Have you been in Hailey Long? Somebody around there should be able to tell you about it. What do you do in Hailey? A hunt would be great but it might be a while before I get over there. I think there is still snow up there. My Mxt is working great and it would be nice to do some relic hunting in the Stanley Area. Check around and see if anybody know about the snow level. Dennis

Hi Marcoo, Not trying to be smart, but I think you mean the HOT SHOT COIL by Jimmy Sierra. I haven't heard of a HOT FOOT COIL, but KELLYCO use to sell a HOT HEAD COIL. But, I personally don't think it was a very good coil. HH

Jimmy Sierra sells Big Foot coils.

Hi NamVetLes:

The "HotFoot coil" is a Jimmy Sierra product. It's a DD version of the Bigfoot.

Here, follow this link and check it out for yourself.

http://www.jimmysierra.com/loopsZ.htm Look about 2/3rds down the page.

However, since you brought up the Hot Shot coil, I've heard good things about it. Do you have any experience with it and if so, do you like the Hot Shot coil and if so or not, for what reasons? My soil here is 35-85 on an MXT and I want to nugget shoot so any info you have would be welcome. THx.
