The x-70 is usually the one mentioned for gold prospecting, that and the MXT.
I have the MXT already and plan to keep it (for now). I notice the next step down from the x-70 is
the x-50. With the two coils that come with it, a lower frequency coil 7.5 kHz and a HIGH frequency coil
18.75kHz, then it sounds like the x-50 is comparable with my MXT that HAS prospecting mode, and would probabkly do just
as good a job as the MXT. It sounds to me like the x-50 could be used for prospecting as well (if I ever have the ocassion to prospect).
Some feedback please.

Robert,
I had a 30 and 50. I plan on going to Colorado and Florida this summer. So I bought a 70. I have not used the prospecting mode searching for gold here in Missouri. But I have tested it with the stock coil and 6 inch DD coil. I can tell you without a doubt that if your going to look for nuggets and flakes you need the 70. The prospecting mode and adjustments for such is very sensitive. Also there is the beach mode that I'm dieing to use too! All that plus a full pound lighter than the MXT. Well you just have to try a 70 to believe it.

a half of a grain of rice, which is amazing when seen.

Spend the extra money and get the 70, you'll be glad you did. The prospecting mode is really worth the extra $$$$

Good hunting, John K

If you want the bee's knees the 70 is the only way to go. Serious detecting for those who want to find more. The Elliptical DD 18.75kHz coil is a must. The 6" coil is just as lethal but obviously does not cover as much ground, you can also use it underwater in small flowing creeks along the banks and bends.
Cheers!

Thanks.
No one seems to have an answer for the question: Is the x-50 comparable to the MXT
in their capacity to detect nuggets? They both have high kHz coils. In both cases I am
told if you want to find SMALLER gold go with the GMT or the x-70.
It SOUNDS like the x-50 is about on par, with the MXT then.

Would this be a fair assessment? ANYONE?

You might find some larger nuggets, but with out the prospecting mode the most common smaller nuggets are going to be tough to locate.

I had a MXT and traded it off. The X-70 will ID a target at depths the MXT will not. Last summer at Ganes cr , AK. one of the guys had a target that ended up being a 4 oz. nugget at 17". His MXT would not ID it and my X-70 gave me a TID of 30 any direction that I crossed over the target. His MXT gave him a good sound but not a TID. He also was using the new large coil for the MXT. My opinion of the MXT that it is far to heavy for long days in the field.where as the X-70 with the large 10 1/2 " coil is not heavy at all.

Ok....I'm not tryingf to beat a dead horse but what would constitute a smaller nugget.
Thats what they said about the MXT if I'm not mistaken. Said for better prospecting to get the GMT.
Thats why I'm wondering if the MXT and X-50 are not on par with each other.

OK, let me put it this way:
Everyone is saying the x-50 would only pick up a certain size nugget.

I have no intention of buying a Whites GMT. I am told it will pick up gold nuggets the MXT won't be able to find. SInce I am not all that interested in the prospecting anyway I'm fine with the MXT.

The same thing is being said about the x-70. It will pick up nuggets the x-50 will not be able to find. My deduction (it may be faulty) is that the x-50 is to the x-70 as the MXT is to the Whites GMT. It seems to me then I would be fine with the x-50 UNLESS the x-70 can do things the x-50 cannot.

What do you think?

RR

it will pick up nuggets as small as 1 tenth of a grain :clapping:
much smaller than these

Yes, I think you got it the 70 will do things the 50 cannot:clapping:
Bill

The X-Terra 70 will read a nugget the the size of a half grain of rice, which is amazing when seen, I have seen nuggets that that the MXT has picked up weigh half a grain.
The X-Terra 50 would be lucky to locate any gold nugget.

my whites qxt hit pretty hard on a nugget, the size of the larger one pictured, would think the 50 would work quite well on such gold
