I have a question. l have been looking for old maps of the area that I live in. Does anyone know of a website that has them? I have found one that has some maps but you have to pay for them and they can be pretty expensive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is a Map and Mapping forum under the Resource and Classroom heading. It is further down the main page, that would be the best place to start. Let them know a general idea of which area. Also try your local library.

check todays losttreasure.com tip of the day. it lists the one already mentioned here and one i thing is called GenWeb. it has to do with genalogy but has a lot of links.

I use www.historicmapworks.com You have to put a location and then search for your cty. or city and they even have a hybrid option where you can overlay a new birdseye view map over your old map and there is a bar you can slide to fade the old map in and out of view to see what was there before and what is there now.

historicmapworks.... Looks like we have to pay for maps on this site. Correct? Know of any that are free or at least less expensive then this one?
Thanks

Agree with above or if you have a College in your area. In my town they are building a new Light Rail across a section of town. I went to the Planning dept at City Hall and they printed me out a map of the New Light rail. Your Planning dept or Real Estate Dept might be able to print out an old map. Mine was Free

The Library of Congress on-line has and nice map collection, may have your area. You can search by city or state, etc. Also if you are belong to you local library and they have LibraryPointe (on-line resource) or something similar, you may be able to access Sanborn insurance maps for your location just by being a library member.
