I can testify that you certainly can...the first day I got my new Ace 350 I was playing with it in the front room and thought there was something wrong with it...I was getting pretty grumpy until I realized our house is built on a concrete foundation...that is when I realized the the signals were coming at equa-distance intervals...then I felt pretty stupid when I realized I was locating the rebar in my slab foundation.
 
Yeah...I tried to find a guys wedding ring last year that he dropped at a boatramp...full of rebar! Impossible to locate, even though he sort of knew right about where..it got caught on the boat, and broke in half, he found half of it in the boat, and the other half went flying..
