I know you folks are all for the most part Garrett folks, and so am I. I just wanted to ask if anyone has ever had a Compass Metal Detector?

I Swapped with Artie in NH. I sent him a nice Tesoro Eldorado and he sent me the Compass. I haven't had it out yet, I got it late Monday night. I did do a bench test and read the manual. This machine is sweet!

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had one, or uses one for their back up. This is my first Compass and to be honest it looks like it's going to be a real nice machine.

I used to be such a snob I wouldn't even look at a machine unless it was a Garrett, Fisher,or Minelab.

I'm going out this week-end and give this unit a run, I will keep you posted guys.

Well, to be honest I shortened the rod. The factory length was to long for me, and when I took some length off, it made a lot of difference on the balance. I feels good now. Not over weight at all. I have found if the unit is balanced nicely it's weight isn't any thing to worry about.

I took it out early this morning. It seems like it is going to be a good back up. It's a coin killer for sure. I think folks had been shooting the area that I went to this morning but the coins I brought back were deep. It may even be my front line.

Back when Compass was in its prime and it was the detector to own, I owned several of them and they were the best on the market. I hated it when the factory burned down and they fell on hard times. BUt it is still a great machine. I field tested one for them a few years back. That field test used to be on their web site.

I had a Compass Gold scanner Pro and it did real good at ID,ing things but really was hungry on batteries. I could not keep enough batteries around as I got about three hours on a set of three nine volts.

I think you had a problem. I field tested the CGS for Steve and never had that kind of dismal battery perfprmance.
