Question?

I was just down stairs messing with my SE trying different settings and when I stuck my battery pack in, my screen came on by itself for a couple of seconds and then it went off. I sure hope this isn't a sign of problems to come down the road and was wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing on their SE? I may give KellyCo a call and talk with one of their tech guys and see if they might know if this is normal or if it could be a problem. Thanks.

Eddie

My Spectrum XLT turns on for an instant when you put the battery in. It's done that for years, and it still works fine.

I've never noticed it in my SE, but then again, I haven't really looked for it.

I hope that helps put your mind at ease.

I think id call a ML tech since they would have the warranty responsibility. Bryce recently posted their service number.

let that situation go. It would drive me crazy...and my confidence in the machine being stable would falter.

I would always worry it might putz out on me in the field or start acting nutty.

Give that service number I posted somewhere below a call and see what they have to say.

If they say it's no big deal...then so be it...but I would take care of it now...while we can't hunt anyway.

They might tell you to send it in so they can check it.

Just my thoughts.

Bryce, I guess I just assumed that you would have a spare in the car...just in case...lol !

I called Minelab in IL and nobody was home. Got a recording saying they will be out of the office till the 28th. Wonder what's up with that? Thanks again.

Eddie

If there's anyway you can put a few hours on it before they get back, you should...
I had issues with my E-trac that took 3 trips to service to remedy...they couldn't ever get it to act up...
once they did nothing, the next they put a new touch pad on & then finally a control box pcb...never really figuring it out...
but I know it was all to do with power....& it did what yours did once...
so I would sure do my own investigation to see if it acts up...& keep notes!
& if there is something you find(i.e. power drops or intermittant erratic behavior) you'll know
where it started...
& don't take "we found nothing wrong" as an answer if it has to go to service...
the more notes you have to send, the better...

all that said, hopefully it's nothing!

Thanks for the information. I'll be using my SE this Sat so we'll see if I have any further problems with it. When the Minelab boys get back in their office I'll call them again and see if what I described could be a problem and if it is and I have to send it in for repairs at least I still have my good "ole" XS as a backup. HH.

I found 37 silvers with my XS while my E-trac was busy going back & forth to service...
To be quite honest, I haven't even switched over to the E-trac since it came back almost 2 weeks ago!
I have until June to make sure it's working correctly...
Just doing too well with that 11 year old XS...

I hear you man when it comes to those old XS's. I have done very well with mine and the main reason I got the SE was just in case my XS finally craps out for good or Minelab won't have the parts down the road to fix it. I hope this glitch with my SE doesn't turn out to be a big problem and maybe on the 28th when someone is there back in Chicago to answer their phone I may just find out if indeed I have something to be concerned about. HH.

One of mine did that. It must have been my xs since I can hardly remember any details. I do remember it came back from ML repair (other problems), I put in the battery and the machine turned on by it's self! It would not turn off. Removed the battery and sent back to ML. I was not happy, but ML did finally get it back fixed.

Try removing and inserting the battery a few times. Does it do this every time? Like Bryce said, this is not good at all. I would send it in. This is not normal operation. My other machines have never done this.
