Question ????

So far I like the Infinium LS, but after some testing. how far off on sensitivity is air testing compared to actual freshwater hunting in the field with the Infinium with the 8" mono coil ? I know this question must have been posted before on the forum, but just can't find it. I'm asking this because on some small gold items like open earrings, the Infinium will not pick up on air test, but in the water it will give a very weak high/low tone with it almost touching the coil. Both are tested with disc at 0 and bearely audible threshold. Will the Infinium do the same with thin gold chains in the water or will it not pick them up at all ? The 10X14 DD tests even worse. Do I have the right coil for the job ?

Thanks, Darryl (Lake Hunter)

Seems that 8 inch mono coil is a must have for the Infinium. I know it's only air testing, but seeing what you pull up with your's and the praises it has from others, maybe Garrett should make the 8 inch mono the standard coil for the Infinium. Or maybe market an Infinium package two ways...the original set up for gold prospecting and a 'beach' set up with the mono coil.

Seems to me every Infinium user I see that water hunts uses that coil almost exclusively.

And after about 2-3 hours of it yesterday at a freshwater beach, I had disc at 0 and I was able to play with the frequency adjust and ground balance knobs in a way that it would pick up a small thin gold chain bracelet and small open clasped gold earring with the 8" mono and a slow swing speed. It would only sound off at a depth of a little over an inch, but it picked them up.

IMO, you just need to fully learn your machines capabilities.

For me it was a lesson learned.

Going to give my Infinium a weekend hunt in saltwater starting this coming Saturday.

Has anyone else done any testing with the frequency adjust and ground balance on the Infinium and notice a difference in sensitivity to smaller objects ??

You can add about 25-33% more depth in ground with the infinium after air testing your item.

For a VLF you have to subtract about the same amout for accurate ground depth after air testing.

Yep just play with the grn bal some can get it a tad more sensitive with the 8 mono. You basically dialed it in very accuratly to the ground which made the target stand out more....good job!

I hope they make the new 8.5x11" coil for the Infinium and the Scorpion...could be deadly combo on gold! And anything for that matter.
