When you place a cover on a new coil, does it effect the coil in anyway with it's operation or depth or anything else?

Gee I hope not, as I just got three coils and covers for each. They're quite an invstment and I would like to protect them.:)

it will protect your coil...a cover is less expensive to replace than the coil. Kelley (Texas) :)

Operation and depth are not affected. They do add some weight to the end of your rod and they do collect dirt and moisture which WILL affect operation. Remove and clean as often as necessary for your location. In rocky and sandy ground, they are nice to have. I hunt in grassy yards and parks mostly and not needed IMHO.

The manufacturers say they have no detrimental effect on depth etc. I've seen forum posts by folks that disagree, but I've got them on all my coils and haven't been able to discern any ill effect. As mentioned in one of the posts above, it pays to clean them from time to time. If one only hunts over clean lawns, grass etc. you probably don't need one, but for what little they cost I think the protection is worth it. My two bits.

Most users likely give more up with there swing style than any cover would lose. Dan

Would never use one. Black sand gets in between the coil and coild cover and will mess up your detecting....You can seal it but somehow the magnetite gets in....

No, they don't interfere with the depth at all. It's just a protective device for the coil. HH, Nancy
