Coin / Jewellery mode, I can have the SAT right around to max, and it gives me better depth, plus sound and VDI.
Is that true?
On my mxt that doesn't work so good. Only displays the vdi no sound on target.

The "SAT" control you refer to is in reality the Dual Control, which determines the speed of the SAT "self adjusting threshold" in the prospecting mode, and likewise determines the level of trash rejection (discrimination) in the coin and jewlery and relic modes. High levels of trash rejection will mean NO SOUND over rejected targets. Also, high levels of trash rejection mean less depth on accepted targets. Hope this helps; HH jim

That's probably because in the Coin/Jewelry and Relic mode you do not have SAT. You have DISC. When you turned it all the way up you just discriminated out everything.
Since you have told the MXT you don't want nothin, it is quiet as your threshold is adjusted to. The VDI still reads because it is still picking up all the targets but just not telling you.
I guess you have discovered the true Silent Search mode for the MXT. <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap">
Congratulations! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
Don't want to be a smart a$$ but frequent reviews of the instruction manual are good for even the better THers. We all do silly things once in a while or forget a function or feature of our detectors.
By the way, SAT is for gold searching in the PROSPECTING all metal mode.
Keep on keeping on.

Okay! If someone tells me that his mxt set on coin or relic mode and SAT settings getting better depth and still getting target audio is he full of pop?

If they say they increase the SAT (DISC) then re-read the responses above.

Maybe they're saying the SAT is turned all the way counter clockwise, or all the way down not up!
I don't know if that would increase the depth or not, but it might reduce the power consumption of the discrimination circuit and make more power available to the overall detector (including the coil).
I suspect it would only effect depth if the batteries were already low though.
