Question : what water detector would

Have not personally experienced it, but the Tesoro Tigershark, I hear is good for small gold chains, in fresh water. Check it out.

My HH wader has bagged 16 asorted ones, some had medallions attached so that wont count, but i have to tell you that chains are tough to get no matter what you use. if there coiled in a pile, great, streched out, difficult.

The Tesoro tiger shark is your best bet to find the almost impossible to be found, a small gold chain. If the place is not too trashy, the tiger will sniff the smallest of gold. But be realistic, chains are the taughest items to be found and unless the chain is relatively heavy or there is still a very small pendant on it, it might be difficult to detect. Sometimes, the clasp is heavy enauph to produce a signal, but most of the chains i found were with a pendand or by an incredible luck, the chain was next to a penny :)

I found many, many pendants and I,m always looking for the corresponding chain... must admit, i rarely find them :( But sometimes, the person will feel the chain pending donw and will catch it while the pendant fly away...

(well that is what I have been told by a good friend and a dealer of detectors who has been in the business longer than I have been detecting (70s) - so I trust his opinions).

Pete, Al's right on. The Tiger shark for small gold is the ticket. The only draw back is you'll get allot of Bobby pins too.
