Question to CZ pro's or anyone else?

When a DEEP coin is out of range for sound or target id,can or will you hear a iron tone sounding weak? I have dug some of the sold weak iron tones only to find iron. Is is possible or likely that it could be a DEEP coin with that ID? thanks in advance......Sonny

Yes, when you get a small faint iron(low)tone you may have a very deep coin. Think of it as the machine telling you that the target is so weak that it can't can't ID it for sure so it will call it iron. It's now your choice to move on or take away a couple inches of sand or soil and get more signal from the target. If you now get a mixed tone your chances are about 50/50 it will be a good target. If it stays iron(low), then it is most likely iron. My BP goes up a little when I hear small weak low tones on a CZ.

Of course out of detecting range a coin could come in as any of the other facets as it can't correctly ID it so answer is could be or could be a nice coin next to iron..I like Bill's idea of removing several inches of dirt with a shallow plug as if the target sounds better its a good sign..Many times if in real old area I use auto-tune mode and if I get such a tone just flip the switch one time towards coins all and get it in discriminating mode with an analog CZ to further evaluate..Not that auto-tune goes that much deeper but your coil covers a larger area..Having said all of the above using volume at 10 have got silver dimes at a foot with a repeatable high signal which I can hear...I have to say don't want to dig an more than that. Of course out in the woods or isolated areas those with a shovel should investigate...as a shovel usually make the retrieval easy...

Get yourself an air test kit together.

an old nail, a nickel, a piece of tin foil etc.

Till you have every CZ category covered.

Then do some air tests and write down your results.

Use a plastic ruler...

Do tests with iron disc'd out.

Do tests with iron accepted.

Remember though to turn off your computer, your TV etc. before you begin.
The more electrical equipment you turn off in your living room before testing the more true your results will be.

Definitly do some air tests with the 5" coil vs the 8" coil.

Air tests can help you determine what your CZ is telling you.

And these results can then be used in the field.

Sonny an air test isn't a good indicator on the ground performance of the CZ.I would suggest bury the coins to the outer range in the ground to see if you get the low iron reading.

Did you not like the cz70, I see it is back on eBay. It looks like a great detector.Or i think it is the same one.
