Question regarding search coils

relic-hunter

New member
I am a bit confused by the differences in coils. I bought my gtax 550 about 8 months ago and have done okay with the stock coil, or at least I think I have done okay. I have found somewhere in the range of $75 and $100 in pocket change, a 1944 quarter, a silver pendant, and various other "artifacts". I do most of my detecting on beaches. Some are more trashy than others. Would a larger search coil like 10x14 PROformance power dd be better for beach hunting? Would it be more "sensitive" would it detect deeper?

Unless where you search is highly mineralized a 10x14 DD coil would do you no better than a 12-inch concentric. If the area you hunt is trashy you don't want a big coil as it sees to many targets at one time. I have a field test on the 10x14 coil at
