Question regarding Cibola and Vaquero differences

Habanero

Member
Are these two detectors the same except for the Vaquero having a gb and the Cibola not? Just curious because I come across users who have modded their Cibola with a GB modification. Doesn't this essentially turn the Cibola into a Vaquero? Why do this instead of just purchasing the Vaquero in the first place? Is the GB mod easy and cheap enough to do to warrant purchasing the Cibola then modding it yourself or having someone do it? I'm in the market for another Tesoro and besides waiting on the release, field tests and reviews of the new Outlaw, I am considering the Vaquero and for a savings, maybe even the Cibola for my land unit.

I have read time and time again people saying they are the same besides the gb. I thing the people who change the cibola just like tinkering :) They also have put the pinpoint on a trigger so it was easier to use.

They are the same boards. The Cibola has a trim pot on the board and the Vaquero hes an external pot. The Cibola can be ground balanced from the trimmer.

The Vaq has that groovy purple color, too.
I look real spiffy when I hunt with it and wear my chartreuse golf pants.

:crylol:

Too funny! I actually like the color scheme better on the Cibola, thank you. All joking aside, it looks like differences besides color/scheme and external gb, I think the Vaq has a switch for all metal mode vs having to hold pinpoint button on the Cibola.

Haven't tested my modded C against a V but the trigger position AM switch is so functional I don't know why more units aren't featuring it.
Don't know if the 10 turn GB control is any better than the 3.75 turn but it should have finer adjustment ability.
I peeled of the funky green Cibola stickers for the plain Jane look since it's not really a C any more.
I chose a used C without a warranty since modding voids it. From what I gathered in my research, it's the best "bang for the buck" detector out there for coins and jewelry...AND I like to tinker. In my opinion, I got something a bit better than the V for less than a new C.
No regrets...still swinging the same unit after a year.
