What do you prefer to use while metal detecting?

a) Regular plugged in headsets?
b) Regular wireless headsets?
c) Headsets with only one ear cuff
d) No headsets - using speaker on machine head
e) Wireless ear buds (if they were made available)
f) Real lite headset barely covering the ear

Any other thoughts, suggestions, experiences?

I always prefer full cup headphones so that i dont miss those deep whisper targets,on my Deus i dont have any option really as its my everyday machine and that of course offer the superb freedom of wireless, for most of my other machines i still like full cups but wired is the only option that i use.Always carry a spare set of wired headphones just incase anything does go wrong.Never go out detecting without a spare set or even 2 sets of headphones.

Wireless. Once you try wireless you never go back if you have a choice.

I like being.....unchained.

I like good set of two full cups but sure are hot in the summer. Sometimes pull one one ear up if I'm in a sketchy place. Try to stay aware of my surroundings especially when I'm hunting with my pops. He doesnt pay much attention to anything other than the ground. Couple years back I tried some ear buds and swore i could hear tones a little better. But after few times of them being ripped from ears I was done. Cord too short and not coiled. Been thinking about wireless but I also like not spending all of my money

I have been using wired ear buds for about 7 years now, they provide me with lite weight simple to carry 2 extra sets out in the field, very comfy for a 8hr hunt. I am on my hands and knees at times under saplings in the thorns and you name it. Hands down no question ear buds for me. Price is very good too. I also noticed on my Tesoro Cibola that I could distinguish how the sound changed ever so slightly more and my finds of deeper coins increased big time. If you get them caught in a tree branch you can yank and it wont snap you in the face, and if they break you have two more in your pocket. Now i have bought a vaquero and will use the same cheapo set of ear buds that I always have. Where I hunt there are bears and such so hearing your surroundings is important to me. I can hear the coyotes just fine and the beeps too. Almost forgot I use a 12 in. cord adapter from 1/8 to 1/4 to give me some added length. Just my opinion. HH

I use full cup Calrad headphones and for the hotter months I recently started using cheap ear buds plugged into a Koss volume control. If you take your time and properly secure the excess earbud wire to the detector they work well in the more open areas. Sometimes the summer heat is too much for the Calrads and the earbuds will also allow you to wear the hat of your choice for sun protection. The only time I dislike the earbuds is when I start getting in wooded brushy areas cause they snag easily on twigs.
