Question re Tesoro Bandido ll uMax

Regarding the subject metal detector, let's say I have ground balanced this machine with sensitivity at the #10 setting, adjusted the threshold and have proceeded to hunt in AM mode. Question: If I start getting ground interferences for example and decide to lower the gain setting to maintain maximum performance, should I also re-ground balance, i.e. are sensitivity and ground balance tied together in this machine ? I couldn't find an answer to this question in the operator manual.......maybe I overlooked it.

On page #40 of Larry Sallee's book The Complete Unabridged Zip Zip, copyright 2004, he mentions that on the White's Goldmaster machines made prior to the Goldmaster lll, the gain and ground balance are tied together, so when you change the gain, you need to re-ground balance.

Thanks and HH !

dirthound ........I caught that on page #7 of the manual, but thanks just the same for the reminder.

Can you add anything re my question ? ;)

I always check my ground balance every few minutes, I dont know if you have to after you lower the sensitivity, but I would check it anyways,it only takes a second and it is a good habit to get in too.once you get used to manually ground balancing your machine every few minutes you will never want ground tracking. Good luck

Thanks dirthound, for the good advice re frequent GB'ing.

I do hope, however, that someone out there can tell me whether or not the gain and GB are tied together in the Bandido ll uMax, making it necessary to re-GB after changing the gain setting in order to maintain maximum performance, as with the White's Goldmaster machines made prior to the Goldmaster III according to the statement on page #40 of Larry Sallee's book.

Hi,
I think that, talking about electronic circuit, sens. is indipendent from ground balance ...but...they should interact.
Infact when You're in high mineralized ground, too high sens. makes ground balancing more difficult to obtain.
So, imho, yes, recheck GB after sens. modifications.
All the best,
Ale

I hope you meant you adjusted the Threshold and then Ground Balanced. I point this out only because I've helped a few people through the years who have a model, such as the Bandido II

Thanks Ale

You know, when I first read your reply, I thought how could Sens. and GB be independent of each other, "but...they should interact" ? Then I read Monte'sfollowing reply, plus thought about this more and got my thinking outside-of-the-box. My usual thought pattern would be: If circuits are independent then changing one shouldn't affect the other. Well, that's logical to a point, but then I thought about two independent cars flying down the road and then crashing into one another ! Now that's a good example of two things that are independent and yet can have an affect on one another. And there are,of course, many other examples that one could think of to prove that point. Two things can be intrinsically independent and yet affect, have effects, on one another........why of course ! LOL
