Question on the water seal of the Peltor headphones mod

Gday

This mod looks great as I don't have a good fit with the uncomfortable standard yellow Koss' ones.

But...does anyone know - just how watertight are these Peltors ?
I understand that the wire slit done during the mod is sealed up with silicone - that is not my query
I am wondering about how good the water seal is where you pull Peltor's come apart
it has a join all the way around each earpiece
- how waterproof is it here where the Peltors pull apart and push back in to become one again ? (or should it be siliconed all around before snapping back together?)

Has anyone done this mod and submerged / dived with the Peltors ?

thanks :)

The original phones are not watertight and fill with water hence the drain holes. If you do the mod like i did the waterproofing is not affected, the actual speaker is still siliconed in its original position, only trimmed around the edges. Look at the 1st photo in my second post on this page http://www.findmall.com/read.php?21,1400803,page=2 under the silicon is the speaker disk that remains sealed

I don't think I'd go diving with Peltor modded headphones and would try to keep them dry in the surf IMO. I'm thinking all that foam will definitely suck up some water, but they would eventually dry, but would be pretty heavy full of water. Since you are not cutting any wires, like kered said the tranducers are still water proof.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Thanks guys :)

I've been under water with my Peltors and no problem with the pads soaking water. The phones worked great and are really comfortable....way better than the stock phones. I like this mod better than the Grey Ghosts. Cheaper too!
