Question on the Soverrign GT

Bob (OHIO)

New member
This question has probably been asked a alot of times ,but here goes anyway. What is the sweep speed of the sov gt.I have a ML explorer and this machine requires a slow sweep. Is the sov the same or is it a faster sweep speed. Also,on average,is the sov a deep seeking machine. HH Bob:usan:

Go as slow as you can and when you think its slow enough slow it down some more. This is the secret to finding the deep and strangely positioned targets.

Is it deep? I'd say that it's as deep as I want or care to dig and it competes with the Explorer in some areas, but the Explorer is a little more precise.

My anology is if you're one to know every computerized function of your Cell phone then you might do great with an Explorer.

was by far the greatest beach machine i have ever had along with my old excal.

2004 i bought expII for the surfzone and sent sov. to bolder, co.

i thought the expII was a great beach machine until 30 days ago and i bought a new sov GT

i am going to put my expII in the classified shortly

GT for working the beach is much faster sweep than expII

the surf is all i hunt so i can not relate to anything other than that zone, but it does a great job and swing speed does not seem to matter all that much, it will alert u when u have gone close to a target

two weeks ago i added a WOT.............man what a beach machine i have now.

my 5 cents worth

The Sovereign is a deep seeking detector like the Explorer is, but like the Explorer the Sovereign is a slow sweep detector. Sometimes if you know that deep targets are there you have to go even slower with the Sovereign, but I feel inmost cases you can hear some of the deeper targets with the Sovereign. Now I just got the new SE with the pitch hold and still learning it, but it looks like you can hear the deep one better then the other Explorers.
Now how slow depends a lot on where you detect and where the disc and sensitivity is at as you don't want to hear a solid null, but the tones coming and going, so how slow is how much of the threshold you hear so you can hear all the targets there is.
Now with the Sovereign and the Explorer I have dug a barber quarter which each one that were between 13-14 inches deep with the 12 inch Sun Ray coils, but you had to listen close and go real slow to hear them.
Like I say I use them both and they both are great detectors if you spend the time to get to know them well. The Sovereign I feel I can do better on digging more keepers verses trash targets while the Explorer I can tell my quarters from my dime and pennies better, but do dig more trash that is too iffy not to dig.

have to agree with gravedigger. i havent touched my explorer since i got my GT and that was about 9 months ago.
along with the S-1 probe and the sunray coils i added its just a killer machine any way ya want to look at it.
