question on the sov GT

I did a feild test on 3 concentric coils and just loved them as they were very good, but the company decided not to make them as they thought the sales wouldnt pay for them to be made. I then tried one that is being made and sold though Kellyco and I didnt like it that much so it was replaced and that one didnt work as good as the ones I did the field test on that is not being made.
Maybe it is where I hunt that the one I bought didnt work as good as I felt it should too as some do like it.

Johnny the excellerator 8" concentric is great if you do not have high mineralized ground, it will pinpoint dead on and the depth is the same as 10" W/S stock. The Sov is a smooth detector but lacks depth.Sov gt owners will not confess to this , this is why they keep searching for a deeper coil! The Musketeer is a better and deeper detector, i know first hand trust me!.The Sov is more of a gold detector in mineralized ground or salt sand detector not for going deep on old coins. Why you ask?Because the Sov gt uses auto track for all metal mode and switches to a pre set ground factory setting in disc mode, there you have it! I will be back to show you what the Musky will do, keep jacking around with that Sov if you want to like horse man and you will be sorry! :csflag:Charles,Charleston,S.C.

By the sounds of it you either didn't have one or never used it enough to understand it. The Sovereign is one of the best if not the best coin detector, great on the salt water beaches and fresh water ones. I use mine exclusively inland in parks, ball fields, churches and schools and other places people have been and dug dimes as deep at 12 inches with the 8 inch coinsearch coil. I wasn't able to do this at first when I started with the Sovereign in 1996, but from use and understanding the Sovereign I was able to do this.
Now if I was a relic hunter and dig everything the Advantage (Musketeer) is a great detector for the money, but for coin hunting the Sovereign is awesome if you spend the time to learn it.
Now the new GT is the first Sovereign that can be used for gold hunting, but not the small stuff as it does have auto trac or lock in all metal which I hear helps in gold fields. If coin hunting you don't need this so disc is the way to go as it does great and you don't have to worry about ground balance as the BBS and the FBS detectors are not preset ground balance or auto track, but able to compare the ground with any metal object and ignore the ground. Don't know how it all works, but know it works great.
The BBS and FBS detectors of Minelabs when understood they not only impress others with coins coming out of worked out areas, but will impressed yourself.

Thanks , I do have a GT and meter on order and will be here in week or so. I did have a SE and just not sold on it. The ID in the trash would just stop and used a x5 coil. Maybe asking some question. And I live in SE TX and have very low mineralized soil and just may get the 8" concentric coil, I know on my f75's the concentric coil's work better then the DD's. Looking for ward to learning the GT. Have any helpful hints . Thanks John S

Come on now Charles, your just telling everyone you never really learned how to use the Sovereign:poke:

Your not Chuck are you, with yet another new name to hide behind?

Neil

No Neil the name is Charles,Chuck,Chucky,Charley, whatever you what to call me,just don't call me late for dinner!,The Musky does go deeper man! The Sov is a smooth detector,i liked it,i found a good bit with it,as a matter of fact some relics dating to the 1700's,heck a lot of that old stuff was only 4 to 5 inches down anyway especially button's,they will not sink like coins,i found most with the 8" concentric, probably because i am just now learning how to use a widescan coil,i use to hate them until i really started to learn and appreciate the widescan,i am doing good with a widescan now finally after about a year of practice,I have the musky now and if i get another Minelab it will be a X-Terra,i have been spending a lot of time on that forum and reading the on line manual for it,i like the package, never had a id machine, back in the day my old detectors in the 70's had a swinging needle like a old volt meter if you want to call that a id machine, the X-Terras do look nice and light, for you know i break my equipment down, bag it up and travel by bike, talk at you later you Sov lover! Charles,Charleston,S.C.

Hey Chuck I thought it was you. Man no one likes to be called late for dinner:heh:

Now Ive never hunted the area you hunt there so you might be correct the musky might do better there, but I know alot of hunters give up on the sov after a short period of time frustrated by its broad band reply on targets, slow response time, weight and even the nulling of the threshold seems to cause concern among some.

Im sure glad I stuck with mine and yep, Im a sov lover:thumbup:

hey tejonman,,i hear you and the musky is a great machine,,but put the sovereign g,t, in manual sens, and you get snapped off with the depth of the holes you dig,,,peace,,,comcat :ukflag:
