QUESTION ON THE SAFARI

hello again i have a question why is it that when i run over my chain laying on the ground it picks it up about 3 inches of the ground 14k rope chain with charms but when i bury it 4 inches and just lay the dirt on top it will not pick it up is it the dirt. I really would like to get it set to find gold jewelry i need help so i have a chance of finding gold jewelry i run auto and coin jewelry mode and it will not pick it up in the ground but on the ground it will what am i doing wrong what settings should i run i have the same problem with rings like i said it picks it up if it is not in the ground but on the ground so i know its working but not very far off the ground 3 to 4 inches it should be going way deeper sorry for the long question

I don't know why you think it ought to get "deeper" when you've added ground mineral to the equation compared with a "surface" hit. There are four things to consider:

1.. With virtually any detector you will get the best "depth" in an air-test w/o any ground signal.

2.. You'll usually get a little less "depth" if the same target is laying on TOP of the ground as there will be some ground signal, but ....

3.. You will generally get less "depth" of detection if the same target is located in the ground and has been in position for a good while and the surrounding ground matrix is compacted and all similar.

4.. As a rule, you will get even less "depth" on a freshly-buried 'test' specimen because the soil at that spot has been disturbed and is different from the adjacent, undisturbed ground.

In your case, you're going from #2 to #4 and will not get equal depth. This is a general rule of thumb.

Now, beyond that, you are going to get better depth, as a rule, if you get out of Auto-sensitivity and adjust it to a high setting that is not unstable. Also, make sure you're using the least amount of rejection possible.

thanks i just wanted to go deeper than a few inches because if there is a gold coin i want to be sure i will be able to pick it up on my detector say 5 or 6 inches what do you recommend the sensitivity set at 17 18 around there thanks

CS78 ,
Where are you hunting for this jewelry ? ....Are you on the beach or on regular ground ? .... Jim

Sometimes 18 or 19, but in bad areas with too much EMI I have to drop it to about 15.

I did the same with my gold rope chain and it picked up a solid repeatable beep in
all metal but not ....coin and jewelry. So I am going to start using all metal mode.
