Maybe they discontinued it to make room for the new multi-tone machine? Time will tell.

rodbuster said:I can honestly say I have heard 4 separate tones with my golden, the two middle tones are very close. The way I detect , the golden is a good fit. To me ,tones are the way to go. I hunt with no notch, wide or narrow depending where I am at. Discrimination set at minimum or no higher than preset and threshold at 2 o' clock. I use the standard 9x8 coil and do well in trashy sites as well as open areas. The middle tones are close so you need head phones. I use clip- on ear buds for over 10 years and like them better than over the ear headphones. Don't get me wrong there are some very good headphones on the market, and I have tried them but a good pair of ear-buds work for me. Practice with different targets and use phones, you will hear the tones. If you like coins and jewelry the Golden Umax is for you.

Part of me doesn't want to respond to this request becaused I'm pissed at Tesoro for discontinuing the Golden uMax. But the other part thinks that maybe someday someone might go to work there that understands and will someday make a good user adjustable tone id machine.
The only tones that are preset are the high tone (high conductive coins like dimes and above, and the medium high tone (zinc cent). In a properly adjusted Golden, these two tones are the only ones preset to a specific conductive range.
The low tone's lower boundry is also preset for iron but it's upper boundry depends on the Notch Width setting.
The Notch Width controls the middle low tone's conductive range.

Mike Hillis said:Hihosilver, folks still have to get rid of inventory. Per Tesoro, the Golden was one of the slowest sellers they had. However I'm sure there is nothing wrong with them.
Regards why Tesoro still has it on their website, you'll have to call and ask them that question. Phone number off their website is 1-928-771-2646
