Question on target ID for multiple targets and pinpointing

Captain Kirk

New member
I am seriously considering the purchase of a T2 to complement my arsenal. I have read the complete manual and it seems to be a little lacking in a couple of areas.

TARGET ID
Suppose you get a tone ID on two different types of targets that are a couple of inches apart. What is the process for getting a visual ID for each of the targets separately?

PINPOINTING
The manual also appears to be incomplete on pinpointing a target. With a DD coil, the entire center of the strip of the coil is "hot". The manual does not appear to indicate this fact and that an "Xing" technique is necessary to do an accurate pinpoint. Perhaps I am just not understanding the manual correctly.

Thanks for any help

Hey Glenn,

The T2 is very very fast with VID's. When you sweep the coil you will hear all the targets (depending on the audio mode being continuous or sampled) and see all the VID's. It's a bit overwhelming at first cause it won't average the targets together. I often see 4 or 5 id's per sweep. I think this might be a reason why the default discrimination setting is 10. It's good to hear the iron nearby to stop masking. After a few days I was no longer overwhelmed. It just gives you an aweful lot of information. Instead of settling on one mode for hunting it looks like many of us here switch between modes on a target to get more information and cross check.

Pinpointing is pretty easy. It's VCO oriented so you just go for the "highpoint" of the sound. You can further narrow the targets center by pulling the trigger closer to the target which cuts the width of the target out. I often turn 90 degrees just to better center the target as since the coild is DD the target is not narrowed down super duper from top to bottom. Also, just the discrimination beep is often enough to center the target but the pinpoint is adjustable with sensitivity and it's a great tool to "feel" and "size" the target out.

Hope that helps,
EMS
