Question on Silent Search on Sovereign GT.

Scott_B

New member
I just bought a used GT, and I have a few question about it. I was playing with it without headphones and I noticed that when in disc mode if I flip it to silent search there is still a threshold but it gets a littler fainter, but it is still there. Now when I used headphones, if I flip it into silent search then the threshold disappears. Any ideas why the threshold stays with no headphones, but goes silent with them.
Another question is when with headphones on, in silent search when there is no threshold, and I flip it into all metal the threshold returns even though it is in silent search. Is this normal? This is my first time with a GT. And I just want to be sure it is operating properly.
Thanks,
Scott

The impedance might make a difference with your headphones. The recommended impedance is between 32 and 100 ohms. In addition, the manual states that threshold is to be set to just audible in threshold mode before switching to silent search. You should make your settings with the headphones on. You should be able to obtain a manual in PDF form online.

As already stated there is probably an impedance difference between the headphones and the speaker. Adjust the silent search for which ever you are using. Personally I like to hear a threshold. But the option was put there for a reason. I think your detector is working fine. As far as all metal goes my GT is deeper in discrimination mode.

I plan on searching in threshold mode. I am just trying to make sure that everything is working fine. Is it normal when in silent search and you flip to all metal, the threshold returns?

Hey Scott,

The best advice from the start is to read your manual and if you dont have one you can get one off the minelab website(download it).

To answer your question on silent search, its for the discriminate mode only. If you have your sov in disc mode and set your threshold for just audible, then switch to silent search(either with headphones or without), the detector should go silent. It just sounds like youve got your threshold set to high.

I just looked at the minelab website and downloaded the sov gt manual and its explained on page 7.

Scott let me also add that you should be checking this with your coil in the air so your not nulling out as you play around with the controls.

Thanks for the explanation. I will play with it more when I get home this evening. Thanks for the link, and thanks for the help everyone.

Also while searching in (silent) there will be no nulling on FE & no high threshold response from your last target........ you can also swing faster, I use it all the time dry sand hunting looking for recent drops.......... pretty much I hunt until I drop from exhaustion or when the police kick me out for over curfew.
