question on selling gold

ojm bc

New member
If someone went in to a gold buyer shop with a gold watch, how does the gold buyer weigh for amount of gold grams? since half the watch is base metals like the brass workings? thanks

I would guess they would not weigh it but make you an offer based on what they think they can get. If they have scraped a thousand gold watches they have a good idea of the amount of gold in one , then its a matter of karats. If someone wants to weigh it, it is a simple task to remove the insides leaving only the gold case.
I would look into what the watch is worth as a watch .witch may be more than the gold value.

Seems like the bottom line is,you always take a loss.
