question on running all metal on 1270

I have noticed that when testing my 1270 on a 10" bullet I can hit it in all metal great but when I switch to normal disc or iron disc I don't get a peep out of it. So what should I do? I am wondering if any one knows a solution or is there someone who knows how to tweek the machine to give it a little more depth in normal mode?

First of all AIR Testing isn't an exact true depth reading, you are leaving out the soil moisture content,Minerals in the soil, and most important the HALO effect of the lead leeching into the soil around the bullet which makes the target LARGER.
If it's a 58 CAL. bullet 10" air is great it should be no problem in the ground. Use max SEN.and if your RELIC hunting low DISC and in iron real low just for rust particle and tiny nails and tacks. OH and you forgot to say what size coil you were using.

The bullet is in ground but not for a long enough time to create a halo effect. I was using the 10-1/2" coil.

So, this is a "Planted" bullet in a test garden, correct?

I've found that test gardens do funny things that I can't really explain why???
Sometimes the first few days the items are planted a detector will hit them okay, but then they seem to just disappear?? Now this only happens with targets that were planted past 5" or so, 4" or less they act fine.
I've got coins @ 7" that even after a year are still not right, I can get them a little in all-metal but that's it.
On the other hand I have a couple of others that are @ 8" that have been planted for over two years now and they work fine, these coin are not haloed. Whites Electronics claims that test gardens don't do very well because the ground matrix has been disturbed.
My brother Ron experienced the same thing in a 7" test garden.

Mean while I'm still waiting for my two 7" nickels to take root??? been over a year now and I still don't get a response from them.
