Question on ring marking...

A

I received a email today, from someone that had found my webpage on jewelery markings. Apparently, their friend has purchased a ring, that looks like good 14K gold, but the only marking is "VIP". Have any of you see this mark? I'm assuming it's a maker's mark, and have informed this person of that.

I've tried to do a google on this for you but with no success. I don't know about the VI in VIP but the P could represent Plum or Plated, pretty much two opposites of the pole between good and bad, or the initials together could indeed represent a maker's mark which I've had no success at all in finding and from the little that I have googled, nobody else out there has much info on all of the various maker's marks either. I don't know if it's because there are so many it makes searching too difficult or because there just isn't an online source available. I would talk to a reputable jeweler in your area. Best of luck.
