Question On Recovery Speed.

Can't say I've been able to use any where near all the detectors out there, but my MXT and my Tesoros all recover very quickly.

Funny you ask / post this question as I was just reading about the XP Deus. On page 14 of 60 in the manual it mentions this detector can be cranked up to run 4 times faster in recovery speed (reactivity levels) then most detectors on the market! Watch some of the videos made on here by users of this machine. I was really impressed with the blazing fast recovery speed.

"By way of example, and to help you better understand the reactivity levels available, you should note that the reactivity of most detectors
on the market is generally only equivalent to level 1 of the D

I 6 machine and I have 2 do all the recovering

That is a hard question to answer without some way to measure the recovery speed and the effect it has on targets at depth. The Deus is certainly right up there with 5 adjustable speeds. There is also the White's V3i with 200 adjustable recovery speeds. The V3i has insane fast recovery to the point that it is not functional for detecting so there is a limit to recovery speed. A faster recovery speed is very good at separating targets that are very close together but on the other hand, some of the deepest VLF detectors are very slow in recovery speed.

The F75 is also suppost to be very fast but I don't have experience with that one.

That's true. In my opinion slow recovery machines deep a better job of seeing and locking onto deep targets. And recovery speed can be compensated by slowing down your sweep speed. My Sovereign GT has the slowest recovery speed I think I've ever used on a detector, yet I can see a dime laying right up against a piece of trash with proper coil use.

The f-75 is the fastest I've used. From watching videos, looks like the Deus and kin are the speedsters these days.

Hi RH,i've owned some of the fastest recovery machines available and some of the slowest.Sometimes slower recovering machines can do a better job of finding targets than a faster one, especially on deeper targets as was mentioned earlier. This is why the latest top machines allow you to adjust recovery time for different situations.I owned an xp goldmax power which is one of the fastest machines on the market but was once totally outhunted by a friend with an explorer which he was running on a slow recovery speed setting.......just down to that particular situation at the time.I own a sovereign gt which as mentioned earlier has a very slow recovery time but this machine has given me the majority of my best finds.Speed does'nt always equal finds.

That's the importance of knowing your instrument. I have to make mental adjustments whenever I switch from my Tesoro to my Ace. And no, it's not because the bonging affects my brain!:yikes:

The other perk about the slow recovery speed on the Sovereign is that the audio is very long and drawn out due to the machine not trying to reset while you are still over the target. What that means is you can get a better idea of the target's potential because you can hear more things about it. For instance, oddly shaped trash with jagged edges will often have a fuzzy or broken up sound to the edges of it. Rings, coins, and other round targets will have a nice "round", warm, soft sound to them. As said too, I think a slow recovery can lock onto and sound off to deeper targets better in general. You just have to remember to keep your sweep speed slow so you don't miss any targets between trash and such.
