Question on probability % number...

I noticed that swinging over a clad quarter, laying on top of the ground and the coil was maybe 2" from the coin, in coin and jewelry, the highest probability number I could get was 38%. I thought this was low since I had ground balanced.

I don't remember if I was using the 4x6 shooter or the 10" DD coil but I tried both.

Do you think that adjusting the filter will help make the probability number read higher? If I can adjust the V-3 to read the highest probability I can get, on say a quater on the ground, at any given site... is that necessarily an improvement... would be a good way to setup the V-3 at a new site?

Do you think that would be a quick way to get the best performance at a new site?

Also, in this high mineral, clay do you have any thoughts on setting the ground tracking? For an extreme, Brushy Mtn, and also for regular Cobb/Bartow ground? Any thoughts on setting the tracking around here?

Thanks,

Julien

I have noticed very low probability numbers ( like 2% ) yet the VDI was correct for the coin.

I don't look at the probability. It never seems too reliable to me....

That is the point. I am wondring if tweaking the machine to improve the probability on a known target, at any given site, will improve it's performance at that site... and if tweaking the filters will improve the probability number.

Mine gives a proper tone and TID but the probabilty is too low, as it is on yours. If the ground is causing the low number then getting the number higher should improve the performance at that site.... I think, I wonder... maybe...

Worked late, ate late and detected late...to check out your thoughts jbow. The one thing I noticed is the accuracy was fair/good on single, shallow and coins flat. Tweaking heavily through it all off. However did find a dime @ 5" that percentaged @ 38 so...I'm with Downdeep on too unreliable. As we all learn this machine better, there may be some tricks to use it for though. It was fun to investigate (and going to pay attention now to see if any usable patterns develop). Good thinkin'!
