Question on MXT coil preferences

Had the MXT out all weekend and it was fun and also tiring. I work really trashy areas and using the relic mode finally got to me. Its nice to know all that iron crud is out there, and I will surely use the relic mode again, but spent second half of weekend using coin mode. I figure its the MXTs job to know the iron crud is down there, not mine. So I let it do its own job.
I was using the 3x6 99% of the time. It is actually very capable of detecting deep targets with ease. The depth indicator seemed to be stretching the truth regarding depth BUT it was actually detecting as deep as it said, a refreshing feature.
Question on coils. I just bought a 5 inch coil for the mxt and I guess I should have asked first, but now is as good a time as any, 'how do you like the 5 incher?'
is it as good or better than the 3x6? I like small coils to get in and about the trash, but like depth too. The DD should be king of trash separation BUT my experience has ALWAYS been that concentric coils ID more accurately than DD types and don't seem to be bothered as badly by wire and nails either.
The stock coil was tried and taken right off. Maybe out in an open field, but not in a trashy area. PLUS, it was heavy too.
Thanks folks,
Tony

I got the the little DD Shooter and I've never used the concentric again. <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">

Its got a real tight band that goes down, you can get great seperaation with this coil and real nice depth also.

The MXT is my wifes detector and I can use it too and we find the little mini shooter is a awsome coil plus the 5X10 DD coil is the one we put on when the mini shooter comes off. The stock coil we never used once last year.

Come down to the shop and buy a 5" Excelerator and I
will let you return it after14 days if you don't like it for a full refund.
JW

Knowing me, the detector may not even be here 14 days from now.
Tony

I have one coming and would like to know your thoughts. Thanks. Bob.

was an exceptional performer!
I have a preference for a <EM>round</EM> coil, regardless of what the internal windings are, because I just like the looks of a round coil!
In addition, I prefer a white coil to black so that was another plus in favor of the 5" Excellerator coil!
I sort of wish White's had made a round 4" coil for the MXT to compare, but when I used the Mini Double-D Eclipse coil and then 5.3 Eclipse coil, I was still a little curious how a slightly smaller coil would do. Well, it did well!
Matter of fact, so did the 14" Excellerator coil, but that's another topic.
When I get another MXT I will certainly have at least the 5" Excellerator coil, and quite probably the 14" coil as well!

warranty would be voided by using an aftermarket coil is a complete and utter MORON. So I suppose hooking up a sunray probe would also void your warranty? Wake up Tony.
JW

It means FUNNY as in haha.
you and some other guy have been discussing this stoopid topic for some time now and I think it is funny.

People actually believe that MORON on the left coast.
The offer still stands on the 5" .</STRONG>

At least one of us is normal, knowledgeable about detectors, and doesn't make a habit of posting 90% of the time with some familiar "name association" to promote someone's aftermarket products.
I think Tony was just poking fun at him for his <EM>"White's approved"</EM> comment.
Oh, I finally unpacked that disk I had the info saved on and I will get it edited and off to you in a day or two.

You should've heard the moan from Sweethome when I related the story to them,I forgot you are on the west coast. Thanks for the help, and when you are ready to
get another MXT call me .

Actually, not much to report other than I prefer the whites 5 inch round over the 4x6 DD shooter. They are both nice coils and work well, however, my detecting preference is the concentric over the DD. First hand experience has shown me this evening that the round coil provides more solid lock-on ID than the DD. This is only my opinion based on how it behaved this evening, your results will vary.

some, like yourself, like to see a lock-on the
target. As for myself, I don't use the meter,
I use the mixed-audio. In reality, both coils
surprised me as to their ability. I sold my
6 X 10 and wish I had it back now,too. Have fun,
Richardntn
