Question on Minelab Sovereign GT ???

Bob (OHIO)

New member
I'm planning on a trip to Arizona to do a little prospecting and POSSIBLE look for someplace to live and was wondering if the SOV.GT is a good/fair machine to nugget shoot with. Also, any comments on the White's DFX? HH Bob

This hurts my soul to say this, being I am a Minelab dealer first and foremost, however, if you are considering a Sovereign vs. a Whites DFX for nugget hunting I think the White's might be the better choice.

You would be hard pressed to find a better coin and relic machine that the Sovereign, but it is not a good nugget machine.

FROM READING YOUR POSTS ON THE NET AND ALSO WHEN WE DID SOME DEALING SEVERAL YEARS AGO,I CAN APPRECIATE HOW IT MUST HAVE RUBBED THE WRONG WAY TO SAY THAT A MINELAB WAS NOT SUITABLE FOR SOMETHING. HH Bob Whoops--please excuse the caps...

If you are looking purely for a gold machine, then please consider spending just a little more money and buy yourself a SD2100. That is one heck of a gold machine and it uses all of the same coils as the GPX4000, which gives you a choice of about 30 coils. It goes deep, and is really a fantastic machine.

Take care!

Being a Whites dealer as well as Minelab, I'd have to back up Docs assesment on the Sovereign. HOWEVER, the DFX is not a good gold machine either. Both are excellent but comparable coin and jewelry machines, but don't have the sensitivity or ground canceling capabilites of a VLF or a PI gold machine.
If you already have both then take both out in the field, bury a small piece of lead (3- 4 inches deep), and try both on the target. The DFX has a prospecting program built into it and by fiddling with the settings to get the best response on the ground you are going to hunt, you will have a better idea of what a real nugget will sound like.
If you don't already have machine and $ are a concern, then take a close look at the Whites MXT. It is the best combination gold and coin machine out there.

Hi Kris,I already have the Sov GT,Nautilus 11B,TroyX5,ML XS,and the White's DFX,,,so I really don't need another machine. If things work out the way I'm hoping,I'll buy a straight gold machine and get rid of some of these others,if--IF I get to stay out in Arizona. Bob

Bob,

I've never used one, but the Troy X5 might be worth a try in the gold fields. Seems like I recall reading somewhere that they might be good there, but I don't remember for sure.

Don't know if that's any help, or not.
