Question on M6 and DI Pro sl

Saw an ad where these guys are selling a Whites M6 Matrix Series metal detector with stock coil for $400 OBO and a Whites DI PRO sl with stock coil for $250, both are in like new condition. Are these good prices or should I offer less? Thanks,

Those are fair prices, But you can get an MXT for the same price instead of getting an M-6.

The first question to ask is what are you using now that seems "lacking' in performance?

The 2nd question is what do you want in the way of different or improved performance?

A 3rd question might be what are your health or comfort limits?

A 4th and final question is what coils to you have that might work on either of these models, if any?

The 5900/6000 Di Pro SL good detectors, especially some of the last revisions of each model. They are, by design, a moderate-to-fast sweep detector, however a high Signal Balance setting combined with a smaller coil will allow a more comfortable slow-sweep to be used. The analog display is about the best you could ever hope to "see" (pun intended) and very accurate. They are powered by 4-C cells and they have the older-style control housing that is larger and heavier, resulting in a unit that can be more fatiguing for some. The 5900 Di Pro SL has manual GB while the 6000 Di Pro SL features Auto-Trac, and it works OK.

The M6 isn't really quite a fair comparison. I say this because the 5900/6000 were really at the top of their class and the M6 is a mid-range priced models. However, to compared what they offer, the M6 is based on the same search engine as the MXT which is quite possibly the most popular model White's has produced in a long time. The Auto-Trac is very fast, and with two knobs and one toggle the M6 is quick to get into action and easy to operate.

At the flip of the trigger toggle the M6 will shift from a single-tone audio response to a 7-Tone Audio ID function, and for many this works out well. Other than the wide-body TID display pod, as used on the Quantum series and the MXT, the M6 is housed in the smaller 'SL' housing, powered by 8-AA batteries, and has the same rod configuration as the excellent Classic series. It is a dedicated slow-motion discriminating mode that is quite forgiving should you employ a fast sweep.

$400 for a Di Pro SL is a bit steep to me, but $400 is reasonable for a clean M6 with low use and some warranty remaining. For me, the M6 is the way to go since I hunt a lot of very trashy sites, especially iron littered sites. The slow sweep and quick response of the M6 & MXT with a 5.3 Eclipse or Shooter coil is very impressive!

which is the XT50 and F70, they do what I need them to do. I just happened to of seen these White's in some sale ads and was just wondering if the price was within reason. But thanks for the info, very much appreciated. John
