question on lower rod

I own a Tesoro Sidewinder and the upper and lower rods are metal has the brown plastic coil attachment arm can this plastic piece be removed to install a new one ? if need be I see a button on the bottom of stem but cant seem to get it pushed in enough to remove the short plastic arm am I doing something wrong!

Not sure if that "button" is a rivet that is used to hold the stem on. Here is a post from Sven that might be of some use to you http://www.findmall.com/read.php?22,1260331,1276678

The button on the old style lower rods is the only thing holding that fitting in. The piece has three edges that fit snuglly against the inside of the metal tubing. You should just have to press that button in and give the black piece an quick twist to move the button away from the hole and then pull it straight out.

I sent you a Message with a little more info.
