Question on gold?

I found a small wedding band this morning. It's a little bigger than a dime and weighs 5.7 grams. I was using the Se and got a nice high tone and before I dug it out I checked the digital reading and it read 04-27. Thought it was going to be a dime and was surprised to see what looked like a gold wedding band and it was heavy for it's size. I knew the tone and reading wasn't right and it was still dark so I stuck it in my pocket. When it got light I checked the ring again. Still got the high tone but the reading read 03-29. I couldn't make out any markings so I thought it was junk. Got home and put the ring under the magnifying glass and I can just make out two 24k stamps inside the ring and there is some other stamp inside the ring too but I can't make it out. My pictures aren't too good. The markings didn't come out well.

My question is, could a 24k ring sound and read like a dime or would it sound like most of other gold rings?

Also found a knife, toe ring, my first Washington Dollar, and a small pendant.

Guess I better clean my keyboard. Looks like you could grow carrots in there :detecting:

I cant replicate exactly what you have, but I can tell you that a 2.5g 24k Credit Suisse gold bar reads almost identically to a zinc penny. They sound exactly alike on the excal, and when tested on and EXII in digital, the zinc penny gives me 7-25 and the gold bar 7-26. A 5g 24k Credit Suisse gold bar reads almost identically to a dime. They also sound exactly alike on the excal, and when tested on and EXII in digital, the dime gives me 4-28 and the gold bar 5-28 with only a small tonal difference when using ferrous tones. So It may not be such a great idea to pass those zinc pennies and dime signals on the beach, because it could turn out to be 24k gold. Although the odds are probably against it. Then again.....

and it registers as "High Coin" on my CZ-5.

Gold is second in conductivity only to pure silver. The reason most gold rings come in so low is the metals that are alloyed to the gold to produce the different Karats.

Found it in dry sand 3 years ago with BH Tracker IV. Thought was junk becuz the color was different, more yellow and brighter. Was taking it to school one morning to show friends, then saw the 24K stamp, so decided to leave in van. Gave it to my dad, him, my brother, mom, grandma, uncle, and neighbors thought it was junk. So one day i come home, and my dad has a big grin on his face, and tells me its real, and sold it for about $500. Now i realize it was worth much more than that... oh well. Also, the jeweler said it was 22K not 24K.. Hope yours turns out 24K!! Go dig some more!! HH
