Question on Explorer XS in iron infested ground

sasquache

Well-known member
I have gotten permission on a old homestead the land was established in the 1700's and the home was built in 1804 it is a big area (acres) Now the question is how should i run my Explorer XS. After i got permission i started off like i always do in digital mode and my regular settings after a few minutes i noticed total nulling with occasional beeps here and there so i switch iron mask on -11 i think and too my surprise it was really noisy but i was hearing tons of iron and lots of good targets. How else could i run my Explorer XS in totally iron ground too get better results? Thank You sas

I would run wide open in Ferrous tones or the same with a very small square edited in too the top left corner about 1/8x1/8.

Mike- is the small square up in the iron to accommodate wrap around or what is it for? I may be misunderstanding what you mean...

No, its just to Disc out a majority of the Iron hits nothing more.
Its like doing the same thing as starting off with a wide open screen then adding only a lil box in bottom right corner which will Disc. out crown bottle caps.

Ok thanks Mike, that makes sense...I still have much to learn,it's actually pretty easy to navigate around the menus. I've taken a look at Mike M.s target placement screens and that has helped to identify some things. I can also see where hunting gold is a definite possibility, though it's not what I do. I might try it though....having variability at 10 and listening for the magic high tone is what I've been spending time with. Really getting on top of the target is paramount,I've also found...:)

Your Welcome. Yes, the tones are the key.
Gold hunting is not my thing either although, getting suprised once in a while puts a smile on anyones face.
Best of luck and if you have any questions just ask. Someone here will help you out.
