Question on discrimination.

Depends on your skills with your machine and of course your machine. I hunt pretty well in AM with the Exp SE, but of course the Excal has iron disc at its lowest setting.

I have my machine on ZERO discrimination. I listen for the iron BUT do not dig it UNLESS I get a good signal also. You would be amased at all the good targets next to nails, screws and bottletops underwater. Many times I have pulled out multiple targets in one spot.

Another reason i hunt with no disc is it allows ME to make the choice. Sometimes your machine might null based on minerals, targets close by, or depth. A lot of times you will pick up a targets close to your coil (HALO) you may need to center that target to get a proper reading. This method uses a little more battery and can drive you a little nuts if you are working trash.... but then thats where skill and the knowledge comes in. Others may prefer to us a pattern/disc. They cover more ground and prefer to cherry pick the larger and more positive targets which wastes less time. People hunt differently...... just like fishing, some like to move around others can stay in one spot.... some use PIs some use VLF. Learn your machine then it may dictate the best method, since they all have their strong and weak points.
