Question on digital mode

After using the explorer for sometime it seems I can ID coins better in the digital mode than I can in smart find.
On deep targets the cross hair jumps around in smart find. but seems to be more accurate and stable in the digital mode.
Also nickels finds seem to be better in the digital mode.
Anyone else had problems with the target ID in The smart find mode ?
HH. James

Hi James, I hunt in smartfind mode sometimes butI guess that I rely on the sounds more than I do the curser. I usually hunt in iron mask at about -8 or switch back and forth between I/M and smart find. In either mode though I guess I listen more than look. HH-Coinshooter65

that hunting in digital mode has been giving me very good results.Although suggested use of digital is for basic coin shooting and not the preferred mode in Sabisch's book,it works for me.Recently I found my first two-cent piece (Id was 27),two shield nickels in one hole that read as #4.Yesterday's find was an 1891 IH cent (read #26)in a well-worked park.I've been trying to interpret the readings on the smart find screen, but, like you said, seem to get a better indication with the digital.I've also been using iron mask at -8 and think that setting has helped.Whatever works for me is what I am going to use.

i think the digital mode is a great option that the explorer has going for it. it sure has helped in the learning curve and developing and ear for the sounds. mostly i hunt an open screen with iron mask set at 8 or 10 and adjust the sens. acordingly and have had very good results this way and we all know that the only time we miss a target is when the coil doesnt go over the target period.
im always switching back and forth from smart to digital because it helps me out in iding the targets. ive had my explorer just as long as most people on this forum and got just the same amount of hours if not more on the explorer. its just a wonderfull machine with all its options and its many accessories. just my thoughts,

ps since the explorer has come out im about 3 inches from topping off a 5 gal. water jug with just clads. it think its paid for itself.
