question on detector...

New member
I am looking to buy a new detector and having a hard time deciding on which one I want. How is the Time Ranger? Is it a good machine for the price? I will mainly be doing parks, schools, and occasional beach , creek. please help There is just too many choices.

hi dobbie. go to metaldetectorreviews.com and look up any detector you want. all of the reviews are written by people like ourselves {our own bhlandstar has a review on there} so you don't have to worry about the makers saying, "our machine is better..."
that's how i came to buy my tesoro cibola. it's just a coin and relic monster like my pioneer 202 is! and with a lifetime warranty...that's pretty hard to beat. so, check it out, you won't be disapointed. hh,

Just wanted to correct your link GHOST...it is:

As you might know, I now own the Land Star, and a White's Classic II SL that I have modded a bit. (Still need to send it off to Mr. Bill for the Receive boost mod)...I like both machines for different reasons, and each one has it's pros and cons...For the type of hunting you describe, the Time Ranger with it's SNIFF mode, would be a great addition to your tools of the trade...Also, you might want to look at the Tesoros, and the White's PRIZM line...if you have the money, the White's MXT or M6 is another to look at...I personally am not a fan of the Minelab machines...I just do not like the sounds they make (Huge learning curve)....In the end, it is best to visit a local dealer so you can actually swing the machine before you buy it...it is all a personal choice really...

You'r not kidding about the "... the sounds they make (Huge learning curve)..." I picked up the MXT about two weeks ago, and I'm still trying to get it down, but I did find my first gold ring with it the other day. Of note: When I hit the tot-lots I use my BH Tracker IV as I dig everything there, but in open fields the MXT is in full swing as the learning curve is going to have to break. It's tough setting the IV down though.

That is what I do with my 2 machines now...BH gets used in Tot Lots and Fields that get a LOT of action, and White's gets used everywhere else...

Not knocking Bounty Hunter at all, it's all I own presently. I have been looking at some Tesoro detectors myself. Not that my Bounty Hunter have been unfaithful but I feel it is important to have options of more than one machine if you need it. Looking for another unit with higher frequency for hunts that really need it. Will not part with my 2 Bounty Hunters though. Will hit good spots with both machines then like Gray Ghost does. One machine will be better at finding different targets than the other. Heck one can't have too many detectors anyways. If my wife goes with me I'll have her swinging one brand and I'll swing the other, should get some pretty good coverage that way.

we both own BH. we have 4 of them. 2 are kids ones for the kids. but I am wondering what else I can find out there. I have found enopugh to pay for the detectors several times over but i cant help but to wonder.
