QUESTION ON COILS FOR TO 705

New member
I just picked up a XTERRA 705 with 3 of the 18.75 KHZ coils it came with the 10x5 inch elliptical double D the9 inch concentric and the 6 inch like I said all of them are the 18.75 kHz coils my question is will any of these three coils work for coin shooting or will I need a 7.5 kHz coil for the coin shooting also which of the 3 coils that came with this 705 would be the best for gold and relics and if one can be used for coin shooting which one would be best for that I picked this whole package up for pretty reasonable and with the thought that I could sell or trade one or two of the other coils thanks for any and all assistance in this

They will all see coins. The biggest difference between them and another frequency, is the response and ID accuracy when it comes to high conductors like copper and silver.

Of the coils that you have.....
Best for small gold= 6" DD
Best for coins at parks or trashy sights= 5x10" DD or 6" DD if trash density is extreme.
Best for deep relics= 9" CC

If you go to the top of the forum page there is a FAQFAQ sticky thread. In it you will find links to Randy's free e-book, and to a four part blog article that he wrote on "Which Xterra Coil Is Best For Me?". I highly recommend that you download the e-book and at least read the article(s) on coils.

And WELCOME to the Xterra family!
HH!

3 coils 18.75 khz??????????????? why 3 of the same frequency i know different size but AL of the same frequency , weird

I don't know why they are all 18.75 but they are I asked the guy I purchased it from why he had all 18.75 kHz coils and he said all he was hunting was gold and it was such a great price I didn't question his reasoning I figured for $500 dollars it didn't matter

It was worth it alright.
Just so you know, and so you can look at them and tell at a glance, the serial numbers have a letter prefix that indicate whether they are High Medium or Low frequency.
There's also a means of identifying them with the machine, but the serial number is usually easiest.

can you tell me how to go about telling by the serial number I want to check each one by the serial number to make sure they are what the guy said I hope one of them is a 7.5 kHz the info I have from the person I purchased it from said they are all 18.75 kHz I am hoping he made a mistake with his info

I still figure even if they are all 18.75 kHz it was still a great deal to me

The newest coils have a frequency sticker on them. The older coils have a prefix letter in the serial number like this one.

You can tell by the "M" in front of the number that it is a 7.5kHz coil.

ok thank you will have to look when I get back home will keep everyone posted as to what they all are didn't see the frequency sticker

If u. Find u do not like the six in. HF and would consider selling....please advise
Thanks
since you offered first you will have first shot at it if I decide to sell thanks for the offer won't be home for about a week and a half I didn't take the 705 with us on our trip because I haven't had a chance to try it out since purchasing it but I did bring the AT PRO hoping to do some detecting while we are on this trip can't wait to start using the 705 though

Ok just thought I would update this all the coils are 18.75 kHz haven't tried the 705 yet because I am still learning the AT PRO FIGURED I WOULD GO OVER MY YARD WITH THE ATP and then go over it again with the 705 and see if it finds any more then the ATP I think that would be a good way to see if there is any difference

Keep in mind that the HF coils won't do as well on silver and copper as MF or LF would, so you're not optimizing the capability of the 705.
It will still be an interesting comparison. Looking forward to reading about your results.

what coil would you recommended to pick up that would make the comparison more equal between the two different detectors keeping in mind the ATP IS Pretty much a single frequency detector or which coil of the three coils for the 705 should I use to do a comparison

Test what you've got. The ATP runs @15kHz, so the HF coils are as close as you can get.

The whole idea behind the 705 is being able to tailor it to conditions and targets sought. It's still a single frequency detector, but it's actually more like three detectors in one (unlike any others).

OK thanks Old Longhair will let you know how it goes when I start learning the 705
