Question on cleaning relics

Hi Everybody
This is my first post on the Relic forum, I have a question about cleaning some of my finds. Over the past coulple years I have collected old hammer heads, ax heads, and other iron items that have various degrees of rust. Should I clean the rust off and use an inhibitor to stabalize the process.
I know from working on car parts, that you can use a convertor on metal that will turn the part black. TB

What I do is use reverse electrolysis
( hope I spelled that right) when all the rust comes off, rinse it good. After it drys I use some of that Rust Converter stuff. It will dry black and is supposed to protect it from rusting. So far I've had pretty good results. Have Fun, sure is a great hobby !

First Tom welcome to the forum. I am a little pressed for time right now. but I would suggest that you use our forum search function and look up "iron preservation" and "electrolysis" There will be a number of posts there that will answer your question.
