Question on AT PRO for anyone who might know.

I know that the AT PRO is waterproof to a depth of 10 ft. My question is, if I'm detecting in the surf, and get hit by a big wave (as sometimes happens when you're concentrating on something else, like digging a target), can the At PRO withstand the pressure that would come from the force of the wave? I've been hit by some that have been strong enough to almost knock me over. Could the AT PRO hold up against such a force, as I'm pretty certain such a wave would exert more pressure than you'd encounter at a depth of 10 ft. in relatively still water? This is a genuine question, as most of my water hunting is done at ocean beaches. Thanks in advance to any genuine replies.

That's a great question. I was out hunting with my machine and was hit buy a wave, knocked me completely over. I lost my metal detector, but someone some twenty to thirty feet away found it as it was bouncing around in the water. I was lucky to get it back. I had to quit for the day as the coil had come loose from the shaft. Never under estimate the power of water.

The PRO is divided up in individual waterproof comparments, each a fail safe for the others. Don't think you'll have any problems. If it will withstand the pressure at ten feet it should survive a wave quite well.

Thanks Waterdog! Yeah, some of those suckers can really pack a punch...is it every 7th wave you have to watch out for? Whatever it is, once I start concentrating on trying to capture a target, I know I am not counting waves..I've had times when it was all I could do to hang onto my detector and scoop.

Thanks Bill! I guess as long as the outer casing can take the pressure for a second or two then the other compartments should hold. I haven't had any trouble with my Sea Hunter II, but then its built to withstand pressure at a depth of 200 ft.

Thanks for your replies.

I think vaughan and steve pretty much covered this issue. I don't think this was meant to be anything but a great wader machine and not to be confused with the infinium or sea hunter. but more for the casual beach hunter that just wants to wade in waste deep water or so. That said, almost all the big water machines get broken by waves lol

:usaflag:It will be interesting to see what the AT's bouyancy will be. Is it going to float in the water upright or roll over upside-down..etc.

Just saw the part of the video where Vaughan does mention that it can get hit by a wave in the surf with no ill-effect. The machine seems to be pretty amazing, and will be a good addition to any arsenal. Garrett seem to have made use of the technology that's been developed over the last 10 years or so and put it to use in a way which seems to have elduded other manufacturers.
