question on accepting all vdi numbers

Hi all, I have a question on accepting all vdi numbers and giving the ones you do not wish to hear a 0 tone. Is there any true advantage to this(depth wise etc.). I've seen a little info on this on a few forums. Just wondering if anybody uses this method and whats your results. I know a couple programs I've seen rejects blocks of numbers and then give them a 0 tone. would'nt it be the same result or better to accept all vdi's and just asign a 0 tones to unwanted vdi's you want to disc. out? Thank you pointer80

It works for me.By not rejecting anything and not hearing rejected targets leaves you open to hear the good targets and no nulls. I have been using it for sometime now .H.H. Yazoo

I feel the continuity of the tone response remains much more intact with this method. The transition time of a null feels much more broken to me. Very low tones such as the ones Yazoo implements in his correlate program in the wrap range have made a big difference for me as well. Custom tones are your friend!

BINGO Mike............. That is the way I hunt and love it. No Nulls

Thanks guys, But I still have a couple of questions. I do not want to sound dumb but what do you guys mean when you say null? Also wrap range, are you talking wrap around to neg. numbers? So it sounds like accepting all vdi's and giving tone of 0 to unwanted ones is a good thing. This will work on regular c&j also not just correlate correct? Thanks guys.

A null is where the detector goes quiet over a rejected target. You are right on with wrap going into the negative. And coin and jewelery will work just fine for this set up,its what I use as a base program. H.H. Yazoo

Everyone has their own reasons for excepting all vdi #s. If it makes the machine go deeper, (which I think it does) then great.
I dont assign 0 tone to anything because I want to hear whats in the ground. I use to use 0 until I ran into ground that I couldn't balance in very well and found out it had iron in it that I was unaware of. I use 5 for the iron range and it gives it a ticking sound.
Some people dont like this and some do. I use this because most people dont understand how important ground balance is.
I use locktrac so my ground balance has to be dead on. I like to hear if there is anything at all in the ground so that I can properly balance.
As far as accepting all #s, I do not accept the range that my ground vdis at. That area is not accepted by me and shouldnt be in my opinion.
You want to reject what your ground comes in at.

In a sense, we still have a null with the tone set to 0Hz because we still lose the threshold tone and it is replaced with a tone of 0 Hz when the coil is over a rejected target. It still SOUNDS like a null, but is not a true null. We are not nulling out a desired target because the audio is not turned off, but the audio is just inaudible because the tone is too low to hear. If a desired target is with a rejected target, you should hear it. For users experimenting with the tones, you are not stuck with 0 Hz, you can assign any tone to rejected (or accepted) targets. if you want to hear the iron and rejected targets.
