Question of VDI

For the most part, those MXT users that dig alot of their targets, when ID'ing a target that's at the edge of the VDI range, do you ever find that something that was solidly identified as iron is actually a valuable, or non-iron target? If so, what percentage of the time has this happened? How much should I trust the Iron ID when I've made the ID in several different directions?

With my XLT or Explorer I have gotten signals that sounded or read as conductive or possibly iron. I usually dig them since you will find that a lot of good targets like military medals, etc are a combination of bronze with a iron pin or other piece attached to it. If a target is questionable, I would rather know for sure, what the heck at worst it's just another hole dug. right?

I find most of my best finds digging the iffies.

Hi Larry:
Can you define best finds........I have become lazy and only dig good signals.
Tell me some of the things I am missing. Where some have fallen on the id etc.etc.
If you have time, I would really appreciate reading about some of your "iffy targets. Thank you.

Hi Elton. We just got back form the Finds in St. Louis..............what a fantastic time everyone had.

The Iffies include: Gold pocket watch, 1854 seated half on edge next to an IH cent, 1874 seated half on top of a steel or iron plate, 108 diamond bracelet, 6 ounce sterling necklace, three civil war buttons, two of the three are rare, gold button studs, gold pocket knife.........my, after 25 years of hunting and digging everything that sounds like a maybe, the list goes on into the high hundreds or more. The VDI's are all over the place and in the positive zone. The key to digging iffies is, the signal must be repeatable and you are fairly sure it is not pull tabs, pop tops and other common trash targets.

Thank you Larry. Your finds list on this post is most impressive.Sounds like I better start digging iffy's again.
You are a most talented hunter and it shows..I do appreciate all your input and efforts of helping me out in my quest of getting better.
How was St. Louis ???? Again Thank you Larry.

.............. in a word, Elton.........WOW. There are some very happy people with new detectors, silver, headphones, old coins and some much smarter than when they arrived. Perfect weather rounded out the great weekend.

Wish I could have been there.Sounds like everyone had a great time.
