Question: Musketeer Advantage

New member
Can't fine any feedback on the Musketeer Advantage Pro Model. At the $500.00 range is this detector giving enough bang for the buck? Thanks. Bridge Guy...

I only had one for a short time and it is a powerful detector, but not one I would use for coin hunting in old parks and ballfields. The Advantage seems to work good for relic hunting and some old farm fields where you can dig everything you want. In parks I found it loves those rusty bottle caps too much to be a good one for the older parks. I know you can swing the coil much faster than the Explorer or the Sovereigns, but you have only one tone to go by where the Sovereigns and the Explorers have multi tones to help ID the targets.
If you are a coin hunter in older parks and where there could be a lot of rusty bottle caps and have the patience to learn the Sovereign I feel you can pick up a used one for what you will pay for a Advantage. If you are a relic hunter or likes to dig everything than the Advantage should do well for you.

I agree with Rick 100%.
I also had the pro package and actually found my very 1st silver coin with it. But after my millionth bottlecap I had enough.
But some guys do very well with it. Mayby now I could do better with it now that I have a few more years under the belt.

Hi Dang,

Thanks also for your imput. The X-Terra 50 gives you much more bang for your buck. I will be buying a unit in the next day or two. From all I read the (50) has had all good feed-back.

The 50 is a good detector as I have used all the X-Terra and i did like that one, but I like the 70 is a bit better and with the special Minelab has you get a free extra coil, carry bag and tool pouch from the first of Nov. until Dec 31. The 50 you just get the carry bag and tool pouch.
I had the 70 the GT and the Explorer II and kept the GT and the Explorer as they worked better for my hunting and didn't use the 70 that much so I sold it.I find I could swing much faster with the X-Terras, but most of my hunting I hunt the worked to death sites and need to go slow to hear some of the signals next to trash.

Thanks again for your impute Rick. I'll be purchashing the minelab (50) today. I'll try to get as much as possible on the accessries from the dealer. Bridge.

While I agree to a point with Rick, I've used the Advantage quite alot. There is a way to tell rusty bottle caps from a good signal. Once I get a good target I lift the coil just a little bit and swing the coil over the object rapidly. If the signal pretty much disappears it is usually a rusty bottle cap.

The nice thing about the Advantage is that I have found coins in trash that my Explorer nor my DFX nor any of my other detectors would see.

If I were you I'd probably get a used Advantage off of one of the message board for sale areas or that online auction place. Or you can email one of the sponsors here and ask if they have a used one they could sell you.

You can't go wrong though with one of the X-terras. Just never wholly rely on the output on the screen of any TID detector. Go by your gut feelings. If in doubt, dig it out.

Thanks Tony, I purchased the X-Terra 50 yesterday. Now just waiting for it to arrive by UPS. Got a great deal with many extras. I went back and forth with several detectors before deciding on the minelab. Not any of the detector "buffs" had bad comments about the minelab products. One was about the coil being too thin and cracking. Minelab wanted to keep the weight down so I quess the standard coil had to sacrifice its thickness. Coils are only warrantied for one year where this detector right now had a four year. The musketeer was at the top of my list until several negative feed backs arrived from this forum and other sources. Anyway, went with my gut feeling and bought the X-Terra 50 for the price. Thanks again. Bridge
