Question for those who use the digital meter

I've learned that its best to use a combo of the digimter, smartfind and sound to verify a target, but i like to use the digimeter most of the time.
Please state your recent good finds and what they registered on the digital meter.

I hate digital, I don't trust it at all. I have watched a buddy dig a Barber half that was a solid 31, but sounded too good not to dig. It did have a big chunk of cast iron in the hole with it.
Use it if you like, just make sure that if the numbers bounce all over the place, but it sounds good, dig it!(I am sure you do)
I know people that only use digital and only dig solid 28's! If they bounce, they don't dig! Saves the good ones for me! I dig everything that shows 6" or more on the depth meter, so it doesn't really matter what number it hits at for me cause I will dig it anyway.
Ok, so I was absolutely no help! <IMG SRC="/forums/images/tongue.gif" BORDER=0 ALT,":p">

I know that many of you folks don't like to detect in digital mode, but I have used it often and made some nice finds. The silver dimes and most of the quarters will register a 28,sometimes a 30 on the quarters.Silver halves read 30.The only two-cent piece I ever found read 27,but not solid.Depth meter showed a little less than half,so I dug up the 1870 at about 7".IH cents will range from 25-27,with good depth.I hunt a lot of school sites and pick up quite a few nickels that read 5 or 6,as well as silver rings.Sometimes I'll see a 30 that is deep, only to dig up a memorial cent, which goes to show that no system is perfect.Like you said, use it if you like it with the combination of the smart find screen, and most important of all, listen for good, repeatable sounds.

I like the digital mode mostly for nickels. Guess its just easier for me to look for numbers between 5, 6, and 7 then to try and figure out exactally where the crosshairs are landing. Its really just a user preference however for the deep targets I don't "totally" rely on the number at all. I use mostly tones and the display for a but more extra info. I would consider anything deep between 22 and 31 fair game to dig.

31 is almost always junk but large surface clad can hit that high. 27 to 30 are good targets with 28 being the sweet spot. 25 & 26 are pennies. Nickels will fall in the 4 thru 6 range but most hit at 5. It's good you use smart find and sound also. I go mostly by sound with the meter mainly for verification and depth. My hard and fast rule is if it sounds right dig regardless of what the meter sez.
